Featuring music from iconic composers including Bach, Beethoven, Gabriel Fauré and Ludovico Einaudi, Mr La Marca has created what has been described as a ‘unique concert-show’.

Taking audiences on a journey around the world the show combines live music with a backdrop of visuals showcasing the planet from French environmentalist and photographer Yann Arthus-Bertrand.

Accompanied by Lithuanian born pianist Itamar Golan and the AYO Momentum Ensemble the talented cellist will perform classical, jazz and current tunes including Moon River, Somewhere over the Rainbow and What a Wonderful World.

On the inspiration for the work, Mr La Marca said he was compelled to create a show with a powerful message of saving the environment that combined music and visuals.

“I was worried, and I was trying to act on it,” he said.

“I didn’t know what to do [and] if I could do something. And then, by chance, I met this great photographer and filmmaker, Yann Arthus-Bertrand.”

“He talks about acting at your own level, and from this point of view, I started to think, ‘Well, what can I do with my instrument?’”

Mr La Marca said music is a ‘short circuit that goes straight to the heart’.

“Music has the ability to awaken consciences, to make people more sensitive, without trying to convince or mobilise them.”

‘Wonderful World: An Orchestra Experience’ will be held on Wednesday, 31 July, 7.30pm at the Townsville Civic Theatre.

The Australian Festival of Chamber Music is on until August 4.
