SOUTHERN Districts skipper Will Farrer’s massive haul of eight goals helped see his Crocs beat a spirited Palmerston outfit by 72 points at TIO Stadium yesterday.
Districts ran hard all day, managing to score in the fourth quarter for the first time in two weeks, bagging seven majors in the final term.
The game remained in the balance for much of the first half with Nathan Horbury and Farrer opening the scoring for the Crocs, while Palmerston’s Clifford Timms quickly struck back with two of his own.
Ruckman Matt Dennis and Kyle Emery kept their side in the contest but the constant scoring from the Districts forwards particularly Farrer, saw the Magpies fade away.
“There’s been a few questions about form in the post-Christmas break, so we had something to prove. We were due a big win,” Farrer told the Sunday Territorian
“We’ve tended to only play for three quarters recently and let our guards down in the fourth. “That’s a better effort from us today.”
Despite the loss Dennis proved why he’s thought of as one of the league’s premier ruckmen, giving Palmerston some go-forward even when the momentum was against his team.
The Magpies rotated him and Joshua Hollamby throughout the game, with the young player proving himself as a promising prospect going forward.
Crocodile Brodie Lake moved forward in the second half and proved a handful in that position, scoring two in the fourth quarter while Jayden Schofield and Keegan Dingo made significant runs.
“I got those goals, but I was lucky to have the blokes that I did around me giving that good ball delivery,” Farrer said.
