Fire investigators scour the scene for clues as to how RSL fire started

NT Fire and Rescue investigators have begun a thorough investigation of the RSL site which was destroyed in a fire early Sunday morning.

Fireys have two areas of interest but it is too early to determine if the sites are linked to each other, said NT Fire and Rescue fire investigator Tony Miles.

“There a couple of points of interest but it is yet to be determined if they are linked and it’s very early in the investigation,” he said.

Crews were called back to the site on Monday morning after fure began to smoulder again in the bar area.

“This (Monday) morning we had crews called back there was a small area that was smouldering in the bar area. It’s now safe for us to go back in there,” Mr Miles said.

SES crews helped to remove the heavy items from the site on Sunday afternoon to allow investigators access.

Mr Miles said there was minimal damage to neighbouring buildings or Vintage Cellars below.

“Vintage Cellars, there’s minimal damage in there, a little bit of water damage and some smoke damage and to the office areas of the RSL sub branch, they’ve got some water inundation but no smoke or water damage,” he said.
