EMERGING Tiwi players Harley Puruntatameri, Adam Tipungwuti and Jeffrey Simon are taking a big load off the shoulders of club veterans, the Bombers’ general manager Leigh Crossman said last night.
That trio were prominent in the Bombers’ 10-goal blitz of Palmerston on Saturday.
With a top three berth in the finals a priority mission for the Tiwis, reducing the load on stars like Ross Tungatalum, Simon Munkara and Dion Munkara is important.
“We’re probably not as reliant now as we were on the Tungatalums and Munkaras as we once were,’’ Crossman said
“Now we’ve got Harley, Jeffrey and Adam as consistent performers and other young blokes starting to put their hands up, which was always the plan this season.
“We want to give our kids an opportunity to play senior football on a big ground like TIO Stadium and take on more responsibility.’’
The Tiwis are fifth on the Premier League ladder, but only half a game shy of third-placed Southern Districts.
Crossman expects a revitalised Tahs on Saturday.
“They gave us a bit of a touch-up earlier in the season and with four tough games to come the challenge is in front of us,’’ he said.
We can potentially finish anywhere between second and out of the top five if we don’t win any of those games.’’
