Excitement ripples as Casuarina Aquatic and Leisure Centre nears completion

Federal and local officials have visited the Casuarina Aquatic and Leisure Centre as water begins to fill the 25-metre pool, marking a significant milestone in the joint government project.

Water has begun to trickle at the soon to open Casuarina Aquatic and Leisure Centre with the 25-metre pool starting to be filled.

Federal Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government Minister Catherine King was in Darwin to see how works have been progressing.

The development has been a joint project between the NT and federal governments, with the latter contributing $7.5m to the $26.8m centre.

Solomon MP Luke Gosling and City of Darwin mayor Kon Vatskalis were also both on hand and Mr Vatskalis said it was great to see the progress that had been made on the facility set to benefit all of Darwin.

“The water is starting to go into the 25-metre, six-lane pool which is very exciting,” he said.

“Once complete, the Casuarina Aquatic and Leisure Centre is going to be a world-class, accessible recreational space to play, swim, eat and relax.

“It will be a modern, family-friendly place that will provide social and physical benefits for our community.”

It was an opinion seconded by Mr Gosling.

“Investing in community infrastructure is one of the many strengths of a Labor government and this project delivers on all fronts,” he said.

“The Cas pool redevelopment will provide a modern, safe, and family-friendly sports and recreational facility that will improve health and wellbeing outcomes across our local community.”

The development will consist of a 2500 square metre complex is set to house a 50m, 25m and resort style lagoon pool, cafe and barbecue facilities, basketball half court and a large grassed area.
