Editorial: Cocaine sex scandal will cause Labor political problems

WHILE the Chief Minister will be keen to sell the Territory’s advantages in his Year Ahead speech, the cocaine sex scandal which has embroiled the Labor Party will cause him great difficulty this week, just as parliament returns for 2021.

WHILE the Chief Minister will be keen to sell the Territory’s advantages in his Year Ahead speech, the cocaine sex scandal which has embroiled the Labor Party will cause him great difficulty this week, just as parliament returns for 2021.

Mr Gunner did not help his cause with his bizarre statement responding to Opposition Leader Lia Finocchiaro’s calls for him to publicly address the allegations, which have been swirling for nearly a fortnight.

Rather than directly address the issue, Mr Gunner used the opportunity to spruik the government’s response to coronavirus.

We all saw how well it went for former Collingwood president Eddie McGuire when he tried to spin his way out of bad news.

While leadership is about taking the glory when things go right, it’s also about not tolerating bad behaviour from people who should know better.
