DARWIN Turf Club members voted for a spill of all positions on its board at a special general meeting last night.

Around 17 people have put their hands up for the 10 Darwin Turf Club (DTC) board positions which will be decided on August 24.

Until the August 24 meeting Brett Dixon will remain as chairman with Richard O’Sullivan the deputy chairman.

Damian Moriarty and Dale Bicheno will also remain on the board until the August 24 meeting where all positions will be declared vacant.

All four will then join the large list of contenders for a position on the new board.

It is understood members last night vented their anger over the damage caused to the reputation of the club by the damning ICAC report into the $12m grant awarded by the NT government for its grandstand and the ongoing turmoil around it.

Not all the anger was directed at chair Brett Dixon and his board with the Chief Minister Michael Gunner and his cabinet copping a significant share of the hostility.

Despite the anger those in attendance described the meeting as orderly.

One member who attended said the number of people putting their hands up for the new board is unprecedented.

“You’ve got more runners than the Darwin Cup … at least people want to get involved,” the memeber said.

“Let’s just hope we pick the best 10.”
