Three teenagers have been arrested after they failed to target the right door in an attempted ram raid of a Bellamack bottleshop.

October 5, 6am: Three teens will face charges after they allegedly tried to ram raid a liquor store – but targeted the wrong roller door.

Northern Watch Commander Theo Karamanidas said the group – aged 14, 15, and 16 – allegedly tried to break into a Bellamack business at 3.30am Saturday.

Sergeant Karamanidas said police suspected the group were trying to access the liquor shop, but had not realised until it was too late they had hit the wrong door.

He alleged the group fled the scene in the vehicle but it was spiked on its way into the city.

He said all three were arrested and he expected they would be charged.

Accused drug driver’s high-speed NT chase ends in ‘forced’ removal from ute

October 4, 3pm: An alleged drug driver has been charged after he was spotted screaming along the Stuart Hwy at 122km/h in an 80km/h zone.

Darwin Traffic Operations officers were conducting speed checks near Coolalinga when a vehicle was seen travelling at 122km/hr in an 80km zone at about 9.10pm on Thursday.

Police followed the blue Holden Commodore utility up to the Lambrick Ave intersection where they tried to stop the ute.

The driver of the ute allegedly did not stop, and instead a pursuit began through the Palmerston suburbs of Zuccoli, Rosebery, Gunn and Bakewell.

Tyre deflation devices were deployed on Lambrick Ave near the Hutchison Tce intersection and the ute was then stopped.

NT Police in a statement said the 42-year-old driver refused to exit the ute, resulting in a forced extraction and arrest.

The man has since been charged with exceeding the speed limit by 31-45km/hr, exceeding speed limit by 1-15km/hr, failing to obey police direction and resisting police in execution of duty.

He was also charged with driving under the influence of drugs and not stopping at a stop sign.

Senior Sergeant Devrim Kanyilmaz said the actions of the driver had put multiple people at risk.

“This was an incredibly dangerous driver that was putting himself, other motorists and police at risk,” sergeant Kanyilmaz said.

“There is absolutely zero excuse for this behaviour on our roads and I commend the officers involved who no doubt averted a potentially fatal incident from occurring.”

4WD impounded after hooning video posted to social media

October 4, 8.30am: A video posted to social media of a car hooning around Katherine has led police to seize a 4WD and slap its owner with a fine.

On Wednesday evening, two cars were seen by members of the public, with the car deliberately losing traction and damaging the road and public places.

NT Police saw footage of the incident on social media posted by a witness and have since found one of the cars involved.

The registered owner of the vehicle will be fined for driving a vehicle causing loss of traction and damaging road surfaces, police said.

Police seized and impounded the car under hooning legislation.

“Hooning will not be tolerated in our community,” Sergeant Rowan Benson said.

“The manner of driving is dangerous and puts the occupants of the vehicle and members of the community at unnecessary risk.”

Driver found allegedly smuggling drugs, alcohol into remote community

October 4, 9.00am: Litres of grog and weedbound for dry Aboriginal communities has been seized near Katherine.

Police conducting a traffic stop on Thursday pulled over a vehicle containing 0.88kg of cannabis, 31L of alcohol, and items indicating drug supply.

Investigators alleged the stash was destined for remote communities in the Victoria River Region.

A notice to appear was issued to the driver.

“Northern Territory Police are at the coalface of combating substance abuse everyday and the supply of these substances is a known catalyst for harm,” Remote Sergeant Caitlin Hughes said.

“Police can be anywhere, anytime, intercepting those attempting to take advantage of vulnerable communities.”

Alleged ram raiders arrested

Latest - October 4, 3pm: NT Police have arrested multiple youths in relation to an alleged ram raid of a Top End business in Moil.

Police received reports a business in Moil Place had allegedly been ram raided with a stolen Mitsubishi Pajero about 2.30am on Friday.

The youths then allegedly stole a quantity of alcohol and fled the scene in the vehicle.

A crime scene was established and investigations commenced.

Strike Force Trident detectives have now arrested four youths, aged between 13 and 15, who all remain in custody and are expected to be charged later today.

Police urge anyone with information about the incident to contact 131 444 and quote occurrence number P24273707.

Darwin shops ram raided, police search for thieves in stolen car

Initial - October 4, 6.30am: Police are on the hunt for a stolen white Mitsubishi Pajero and its occupants after the vehicle was used to ram raid a Top End business.

Northern Watch Commander Theo Karamanidas said the vehicle was allegedly used to reverse into the roller door of the Moil shops about 2.30am on Friday, October 4.

Sergeant Karamanidas said the occupants allegedly entered the shop and stole several items including bottles of alcohol.

He said the group then fled in the vehicle, and police were urging anyone with information to contact police on 131 444.
