A body found at the Darwin Waterfront Lagoon has sparked a police investigation.
Northern Watch Commander Clinton Stewart said a 37-year-old woman’s body had been found at 11.25pm on Thursday.
Sergeant Stewart told the NT News on Friday morning that the woman appeared to have drowned.
Her death is not considered suspicious, according to police.
Sergeant Stewart said police continued to investigate the death on Friday.
Assistant Commissioner Janelle Tonkin at 11am Friday said a report was being prepared for the coroner.
“It was certainly an absolutely tragic event,” she said.
“I understand that she went for a swim in the waterfront and when police attended she was found deceased.”
A St John NT spokeswoman said paramedics had attended the scene.
“Our crews performed CPR alongside other emergency services personnel in difficult circumstances,” she said.
The ABC said police believe the incident was alcohol-related.
