Darwin mum, entrepreneur takes home national people’s choice award

A longtime Darwin local was the only NT winner in a national awards night for entrepreneurial mums. Read how she’s making waves.

A mission to connect families and share honest parenting insights has won a Territory mum a national award.

Karama resident Amy Milford, who is the founding owner of Darwin Family Life, has taken home a bronze in the People’s Choice ‘Making a Difference in Local Community’ at the 2022 AusMumpreneur Awards.

Among hundreds of entrepreneurial mums attending at the awards night in Sydney, Ms Milford was the only NT winner at the 13th annual awards, which are presented by the Women’s Business School.

The longtime Territorian and mum of four young kids said she was proud to represent the Top End.

“Darwin Family Life is an online hub with information on everything from playground reviews to family-friendly events, shout-outs on local business to school holiday guides,” Ms Milford said.

“I also manage a Facebook group where people who might be moving here or have just moved here can connect.

“It’s become a support network for a lot of people here who don’t have family around them, because Darwin is such a transient place.

“Darwin is also so kid-friendly and family orientated compared to other big cities, and it’s great to share that.

“It’s very special to be able to bring this award home for Darwin.”

The Women’s Business School co-founder Peace Mitchell said Australian women needed an inclusive space to connect online “more than ever (before)”.

“These awards are all about recognising the growing number of mums who are achieving outstanding business success while balancing motherhood,” Ms Mitchell said.

“Each year these awards uncover incredible women and we were blown away by the courage, resilience and entrepreneurial spirit of this year’s award winners.

“I know that they will provide great inspiration for other women thinking about starting their own business.”

The Women’s Business School co-founder Katy Garner said that of the 670,000 women operating a small business in Australia currently, around 50 per cent are mums with children at home.

“Ms Milford has created an outstanding business and is an inspirational role model and ambassador for mums in business everywhere,” Ms Garner said.
