The victim of a horrifying crash on the northern Gold Coast has been identified as the community rallies to support his long road to recovery.

Curtis Montgomerie-Williams was seriously injured on Sunday when a driver leaving a car meet lost control of his BMW and ploughed into a barrier where he and a group of his mates were watching on.

The 18-year-old was rushed to hospital with significant leg injuries.

A 17-year-old boy also suffered a leg injury.

Mr Montgomerie-Williams has since undergone multiple surgeries, including one as long as five hours, and is expected to be in rehabilitation for a number of months.

An online fundraiser has been launched to help support Mr Montgomerie-Williams and his family.

“Curtis is a bright smart kid whose life has been changed forever by one single mistake made by a reckless driver,” fundraiser organiser Leuca Sinclair wrote.

“His story is so important and so is this money.

“We are helping fundraise for Curtis and his family to cover at least some of the medical bills coming their way.

“As someone who has known Curtis for only a few years, I can say that he is so resilient and has an amazing future ahead of him.

“He is a great friend who is always there for you.

Let’s all be there for him and his family.”

The 21-year-old driver of the BMW was spoken to by Gold Coast police at the scene and is expected to face charges of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.

Gold Coast police Superintendent Brett Jackson said there had been reports of alleged hooning in the area in the lead up to the incident.

“I don’t have information to suggest how many other vehicles were involved but there were reports there was some illegal hooning,” he told reporters on Monday.

“All of that will be subject to the investigation.

“Police will be looking at dashcam and CCTV footage from the area to identify any other vehicles involved.

“We take this very seriously and this just highlights that significant injuries can occur when things don’t go to plan.”

A Go Fund Me page, ‘Help Support Curtis’ Recovery’, had raised more than $10,000 as of Thursday morning.
