THREE youths have been charged in relation to a string of brazen assaults in the Nightcliff and Coconut Grove areas on Tuesday evening.

Police said the three boys, two aged 13 and one aged 15, were at Coconut Grove around 6pm when one of them allegedly kicked a car.

The occupant of the car made his way to a nearby business on foot where the same teenager allegedly punched him in the face before also punching an employee of the business in the face.

Police arrested the three boys about 8.30pm at Rapid Creek.

While they were being arrested the youths were alleged to have spat at and thrown objects at police.

Two boys, aged 13 and 15, were remanded in custody to appear in Darwin Youth Justice Court on October 4.

The third, aged 13, was bailed to appear on the same date.

The charges include one count aggravated robbery, two counts criminal damage, six counts aggravated assault, four counts assault police and one count assault with intent to steal.

Acting Superintendent Rob Jordan said three walkers were also assaulted along the foreshore on Tuesday.

There was also an assault at KFC on Bagot Rd.

Police are still investigating if the events were linked.

“I haven’t seen this sort of attack for some time,” acting Supt Jordan said.

“I believe there might have been a social event earlier in Nightcliff and as they’ve dispersed they have created havoc.”

Police are calling for anyone who saw any of the incidents or captured them on video to come forward.

A police spokeswoman said investigators were also looking to speak with the driver of a small red car that was approached by a man on Casuarina Drive.

The driver of the car slammed his car door on the man and fled the scene.

Anyone who was in the area between 6.30pm and 8.30pm Tuesday is asked to review their CCTV, mobile phones or vehicle dash cameras for anything suspicious and to contact police.

Anula resident Louise Anderson has been visiting the foreshore for years and was at the cafe on Wednesday.

She said while it was concerning it would not stop her from bringing her young family down to the beach.

“I wouldn’t walk here at night,” she said. “You never really know what can happen.”

Anyone with any information can contact police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
