A WOMAN has been killed in a stabbing attack inside an apartment in Palmerston on Friday night, with a young man in police custody in relation to the incident.
Emergency services were called to an apartment in a housing commission block on Davoren Cct, Moulden around midnight on Friday to reports that two women had been stabbed multiple times.
One victim, a 36-year-old woman, was declared dead at the scene from multiple stab wounds to her torso after paramedics attempted to revive her.
The second victim, a 39-year-old woman, also suffered stab wounds but was taken to the Royal Darwin Hospital by St John’s ambulance with what is believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.
A spokesperson from Royal Darwin Hospital confirmed on Saturday that the 39-year-old woman was in a stable condition.
A 20-year-old man was found a short distance away and arrested. A NT Police spokeswoman said he is assisting Major Crime detectives with their inquiries.
Police established the crime scene around the apartment, and remained on scene on Saturday to guard the area while investigations were ongoing inside.
Davoren Cct is known as being one of the most dangerous in Darwin, and was recently named as a street that taxi drivers were advised not to take fares from at night.
A neighbour of the complex, Rob Chandler, said he bought his house almost eight years ago, and that crime had become worse over that time to the point where it was now commonplace.
“We’ve had a lot happen here in this street...police are here most nights” Mr Chandler said.
“We hear commotion all the time so we sort of usually just block it out.”
However, Mr Chandler was shocked to hear that someone had died, saying crime among residents did not usually escalate to violence.
A neighbour from the same complex as the stabbing, who did not want to be named, also said it was normal for him to woken “two or three times a night” with commotion coming from other apartments in the complex.
