THE Chief Minister says the Territory Government is “doing everything we can” to address anti-social behaviour after footage of children hurling abuse at a Karama man went viral on social media.

Michael Gunner told Mix FM while he hadn’t seen the footage himself, his government was investing “a lot of time and attention” into youth diversion.

“We have increased the Larrakia day patrol and night patrol and the amount of police we have on the streets to make sure that we are doing everything we can to deal with anti-social behaviour incidents,” he said.

“We don’t want anyone in the community to feel not safe, we want to make sure it is easy to report and there is a quick response so we’ve increased those resources and hopefully in this incident there was a quick response and it was reported.”

Mr Gunner said a perception youth offenders did not face consequences for their actions was inaccurate.

“Unfortunately there are kids out there who are doing the wrong thing, who haven’t learnt yet that there’s a consequence to their actions and we are doing our best as a government with those agencies, with NGOs often, to make sure we know who they are and their families and we’re working with them to get them back on the right track,” he said.
