UPDATE: A 21-year-old man has been charged over the alleged sexual assault of a woman at Rapid Creek.

Police allege the man was armed at the time of the offence.

He has been charged with attempted sexual intercourse without consent, aggravated assault and going armed in public.

An NT Police spokesman said: “The man has been remanded and will appear in Darwin Local Court on Friday, 7 February.”

EARLIER: A MAN has been arrested and charged in relation to an alleged sexual assault last week.

Detectives from the Sex Crimes Unit arrested the man in relation to the alleged sexual assault which took place in Rapid Creek on Friday.

Police have been investigating the alleged incident and set up a crime scene in park land on Rapid Creek Rd, where the man allegedly sexually assaulted the woman in her 30s while she was riding her bike at 5am.

Sex Crimes detective Acting Senior Sergeant Kirsten Engels said the woman was riding along the bike path in the Rapid Creek area when she was approached by a man who allegedly pushed her to the ground, threatened her with a knife and sexually assaulted her.
