Prisoner escapes custody, runs into river in Alice Springs

A 25-YEAR-OLD prisoner has spent the night on the run after escaping the custody of Corrections

A 25-YEAR-OLD prisoner has spent the night on the run after escaping the custody of Corrections en route to a Territory hospital.

Alice Springs watch commander Michael Milde said Christopher Coulthard, 25, was being transported to Alice Springs Hospital about 10pm Tuesday night when he fled from officers.

“He ran across Gap Rd and into the river,” he said.

Last night, Alice Springs residents were urged to report any sightings of Coulthard to NT Police.

About 6am this morning, Coulthard handed himself into police.

The NT News understands Coulthard is co-operating with the investigation.
