MAJOR Crime Squad detectives have ruled out a man found dead in an Alice Springs drain having been killed.
Police believe the 51-year-old from the Haasts Bluff Community could have been in the drain for a week.
They had been treating the death as suspicious.
“The crime scene has now been closed and investigations to date have ruled out any third party involvement in the death,” police said in a statement.
Police are seeking public assistance to identify the man’s movements during the period of January 25 and February 4.
The man is described as being of Aboriginal appearance with a medium build, short black, greying beard and hair.
He was last seen wearing a black long-sleeve button up shirt, black jeans and black hat and was sometimes known to carry a black backpack with white trimming.
The man was known to frequent the area near the intersection of Lovegrove and Larapinta drives as well as Araluen Park.

Around 7.25pm Monday, a couple walking along the drain just off Larapinta Dr, called police after finding the body.
Four Major Crimes Unit detectives from Darwin landed in Alice Springs yesterday to help with the investigation.
“At this stage we have very little to go on in regards to when and why this man has died,” detective Acting Supt Scott Manley said earlier today.
“We don’t know how long he has been deceased but we want to look back a week considering the condition of the body.”
An autopsy was expected to be carried out today.
Acting Supt Manley urged anyone with information to contact police on 131 444.
