Police hunt for man after pursuit

POLICE have closed off streets and assembled in large numbers hunting for a man in Wanguri who led them on a chase through the streets.

POLICE have closed off streets and assembled in large numbers hunting for a man in Wanguri who led them on a chase through the streets.

Officers saw an unregistered vehicle in Malak and attempted catch the driver. a police spokesperson said.

“It turned right onto Vanderlin Drive and a pursuit was commenced. Police lost sight of the vehicle,” a police spokesman said.

“Police then came across another vehicle which had been sideswiped near the Hibiscus Shopping Centre.

“At one stage the unregistered vehicle turned into Leanyer Water Park and it was weaving in and out of traffic.

Police said they found the unregistered vehicle abandoned on Gotham St.

“The offender has fled the vehicle. police have established a cordon and are searching for him now,” he said.

Police said there were no injuries and no major damage to vehicle that was sideswiped.

One resident said Strele Crescent was closed and every car coming and going from the street was being checked by police.

“We drove past Trower Rd where Hungry Jacks is at 10am, there’s units there and lane ways. Initially there were under cover coppers in the laneway near the traffic lights and we have come back at 11 and the whole suburb is riddled with police and checking all the cars leaving that street,” they said.

“You’ve got cops all along Gsell St as well as near Hungry Jacks and those units there … every corner between Hungry Jacks and Wanguri Primary School has cops.

“We didn’t get a photo, we were more worried about getting out of there because there’s a heavy presence going on.”

They said there were police on motorbikes and plain clothed police as well regular officers.
