A 21-year-old man is fighting for his life in hospital after being thrown from his car in a single vehicle crash north west of Alice Springs on Sunday morning.
NT Police Superintendent Siiri Tennosaar said police were alerted to the crash east of Papunya, 240km northwest of Alice Springs about 9.30 on Sunday morning.
“(Police) located the male in an unconscious state with significant head trauma next to a vehicle on the Papunya Rd near the turn-off to Five Mile bore,” she said.
“Preliminary indications are that the vehicle has come off the road on a bend and rolled several times.”
Supt Tennosaar said the man was fighting for life in intensive care.
“The male was conveyed to the Papunya clinic before being flown to Alice Springs were he remains in ICU on life support,” she said.
“It appears the male was not wearing a seatbelt and excessive speed and alcohol are also believed to be factors.”
