Man in custody after fire rips through Palmerston home

A MAN has been taken into custody after a fire ripped through a home in Palmerston today

A MAN has been taken into custody in relation to a house fire in Driver, Palmerston.

The house sustained extensive damage as a result of the fire which began around 12.30pm today.

A police spokeswoman said the elevated home was well alight when fireys arrived.

Three fire appliances were deployed with 12 firefighters needed to bring the fire under control.

“The building was extensively damaged, with fire damage to the lounge and heat and smoke damage to the rest of the unit. The fire did not spread to adjacent buildings,” the spokeswoman said.

Driver Ave was closed in both directions to allow fireys space to fight the blaze.

No one was injured in the fire.

Water could be seen dripping from the elevated home while a ute, loaded with possessions, appeared to have been moved out from underneath the home.

The property remains a crime scene as fire investigators work to determine the cause of the fire.
