A MAN has faced court for allegedly damaging a police car and assaulting a security guard within an hour of being released from the Palmerston watch house.

Lee Spapens, 31, appeared in the dock of the Darwin Local Court after being hit with two sets of charges over the weekend.

Spapens stands charged with stealing and damage to property – which he was originally taken into custody for – and damage to property, stealing and assaulting a worker – for the alleged crime spree that took place shortly after he was released.

Police will allege that around 12pm on Sunday, Spapens left the Palmerston watch house and walked into the carpark outside the police station and started damaging the review mirrors of a police car parked there.
