A MAN who knocked out two people on a night out for his own birthday has been sentenced to nine months in jail.

Luke Hereora, 32, was celebrating his birthday on October 27 last year when he got into an altercation after leaving Uncles Tavern in Alice Springs.

Hereora punched a 56-year-old man to the ground before he gave an uppercut punch to a man who was involved in an argument with his friend.

He pleaded guilty to aggravated assault, engaging in violent conduct and giving a false name and address to police.

Judge David Bamber gave Hereora a suspended sentence after five months and said he had “a family, a good job and every reason to stay out of trouble”.
