A FIRE has ripped through a house on Bagot Rd, gutting the three-bedroom home.
At 2am on Good Friday, neighbour Roy Villaceran woke to the bright orange light of the fire coming through the window and quickly evacuated his family and downstairs tenants and called emergency services.
Mr Villaceran said he was worried the fire would jump over to his property as it quickly engulfed the home next door.
The house, owned by Peter Fabris, was unoccupied and used to store equipment for his business.
The house had been renovated last year due to damage caused by Cyclone Marcus.
The Bagot Rd home is now a crime scene with police and fire investigators at the property yesterday using a drone to assess the damage.
NT Fire and Rescue fire investigator Tony Miles said it was too early to determine if the fire was suspicious or not.
“Finding the cause will be difficult as the structure is very unstable so what we’re going to do is get one of our drones … and get it up and get some aerial footage of the scene and that will assist the investigation in terms of where the fire started and where the most damage is,” he said.
It took fire crews one hour to get the blaze under control and another two hours to put it out. “The roof has collapsed and most of the floor has been burnt away as well so it’s a complete destruction inside,” he said.
