HARRY Sutcliffe-Woelders didn’t think twice before he bolted out the doors of Top End Tackle World hot on the heels of two youths who allegedly pilfered two very expensive rods and reels.
Mr Sutcliffe-Woelders, an employee of the Coolalinga tackle shop knew something was up when the boys, aged 14 and 17, bolted from the store on Monday and the security tags attached to the two Revo Ike rods began beeping.
The rod and reels are valued at $1100 a pop.
Mr Sutcliffe-Woelders, who also happens to sport a low key mullet, chased the duo down into the underground car park.
The chase however became difficult with the two wanted men weaving in between cars. However the beeps of the security tags helped Mr Sutcliffe-Woelders stay on their tail.
Top End Tackle World owner Shane Compain also ran after the pair after seeing the action unfold through some of the store’s 46 cameras.
“One went to the rods and the other one held the door open and the one at the rods said, ‘these ones’, and the guy at the door said, ‘yes’, and he grabbed them and they ran,” Mr Compain said.
Mr Compain used the footage captured on the store’s dozens of cameras to craft a video of the chase, which has since gone viral online.
The two youths were eventually caught with the help of other people out for their shop at the Coolalinga Shopping Centre.
“There was this one guy there with his wife and I looked at him and said ‘grab him’ and old mate just grabbed the kid as he ran past,” Mr Compain said.
Mr Sutcliffe-Woelders said it was great to know the public had their backs.
“And it goes to show if you steal anything you’ll get caught,” he said.

Mr Sutcliffe-Woelders had some sage advice to dish out to those who did the wrong thing.
“Get a job, work for your money and buy stuff for yourself,” he said.
Both youths appeared in court on Tuesday for charges of stealing.
A 14-year-old will reappear in court on January 24 and the 17-year-old on February 3.
