FOUR teenagers who sued the Territory Government over mistreatment at Don Dale Detention Centre have had their appeals refused.

The teens were in 2017 awarded between $12,000 and $17,000 for minor acts of mistreatment, but refused a larger payout after a judge ruled officials used reasonable force when tear-gassing them.

The rejection of the teens’ appeal marks the latest legal setback for the teens, having turned down six-figure settlement offers, lost their case at trial and been ordered to pay much of the government’s legal costs.

The teenagers — all of whom have committed serious offences as adults but who can’t be named — were on Monday ordered to pay the Government’s legal costs.
