Covid is on the rise in the Northern Territory with 496 confirmed cases recorded over the past four weeks compared to just 194 cases during the previous four week period.
Three people have died with 94 others hospitalised between October 27 and November 23, compared to 16 hospitalisations during the previous period.
Of the most recent cases, 61 per cent were non-Indigenous and 38 per cent were Indigenous with the remaining percentage unknown.
A spokesperson for NT Health said the increase in confirmed cases and hospitalisations indicated Covid was still circulating across the NT and Australia-wide.
“It remains important for all people to stay home when unwell to limit the spread of infection and protect the community. This applies not just to COVID-19 but all illnesses,” they said.
“NT Health is reminding the community to continue to take precautions to stay safe and protect those most vulnerable to COVID-19.”
Since November 11, 2022, it has not been mandatory for people who test positive for Covid using a rapid antigen test to report their result.
NT Health currently undertakes GeneXpert COVID-19 testing in remote communities and hosts regular forums attended by the Aboriginal Community Controlled Health to facilitate co-ordinated responses.
The total number of COVID-19 related deaths recorded in the NT since the start of the pandemic is 114, including 24 in 2023.
