THE Supercars have Darwin’s Hidden Valley in their sights and Commodore driver David Reynolds wants to make the August 8-9 return of the big bangers a memorable one.

The 35-year-old from the NSW town of Albury has a good record at Hidden Valley with race wins in 2015 and again in 2018.

Winning in 2020 will be even more important given the chaotic road the championship has taken since the COVID-19 pandemic left its mark on the series.

‘It’s been a very strange time and I don’t really know what to make of it,’’ Reynolds told the NT News.

“Myself and my girlfriend (Darwin-born Tahan Lew Fatt) had to move to Albury so we could still do our jobs.

“Just competing on the Supercar tour has meant a big change for everyone and a lot of people had to leave their families behind.’’

Reynolds and his Penrite Racing team are gearing up for this weekend’s Sydney Motorsport Park meeting at Eastern Creek before making the trek north.

A night race on the Sat and two day races on the Sunday make for a tough weekend of racing.

Reynolds is fifth in the championship after five races were completed in Adelaide and Sydney.

Defending champion Scott McLaughlin in a Ford Mustang has won three of those races to lead the field by 49 points from perennial frontrunner Jamie Whincup.

Reynolds treats Darwin as a home track, grabbing five podium finishes and starting from pole on four occasions.

“It’s been a great track for me, I love driving it and love the Northern Territory.

“The track has got a good flow and good grip and it’s a lot of fun to drive.

“I really look forward to going to Darwin, it’s one of my favourite events .

“My girlfriend Tahan is from Darwin and has a lot of family up there, now they are my family as well.’’

Reynolds and the series is assured of a crowd at Hidden Valley — a maximum 4500 fans will be allowed at trackside on both days.

Tickets for the Darwin round can be purchased online at www.darwinsupercars.com.au.

A one-day pass will cost fans $35 and those wanting to go on both days $65.

Children aged 13 and under are admitted free with a paying adult.
