Postal vote applications for the 2025 federal election close Wednesday, with almost 7000 applications submitted so far in the Northern Territory.

Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) Northern Territory manager, Geoff Bloom urged Territorians who may be thinking about casting a postal vote, but are yet to apply, to consider voting in-person as it may already be too late to deliver your ballot papers, particularly if you’re living in regional or remote parts of the Northern Territory.

“Voting in person is the best option as it is can be very difficult to service people who apply for a postal vote this late, especially considering the longer postal delivery time frames in the Northern Territory,” Mr Bloom said.

“There are a range of in-person voting options with early voting centres now open across the Territory.”

People who have already applied for and received a postal vote pack are urged to fill out their ballot papers as soon as possible, place them in the return envelope and have the envelope witnessed before the close of polling on election day.

Postal votes must be returned to the Australian Electoral Commission no later than 13 days after the May 3 election day.
