CENTRALIAN footballer Jordann Hickey has an eight-letter word tattooed on her left forearm which she hopes will motivate her during the upcoming AFLW season.

The word is “dominate” and it is something the Gold Coast Suns recruit hopes to do against opponents when the new season starts on February 8.

The tattoo holds special significance to Hickey and her father, Mick.

“It’s just something between me and my dad that he has always said to me before every game,” Hickey said. “I told him if I was ever to get drafted I’d get it tattooed on me. It’s just a little reminder to always keep going hard (at the ball).

“I didn’t really have time before going to the Dees (her former AFLW club) to get it done so it was perfect timing when footy wasn’t on and I was moving over to get it.”

Hickey has put in plenty of training, including a light session before her Christmas lunch.

“We got given a Christmas break program to do whilst away – just some running, gym and some skills we could do by ourselves,” she said.

She is also looking forward to being a part of history with the Suns joining Richmond, West Coast and St Kilda as the new teams added to the competition.

“I’m excited and just taking it as it comes,” Hickey said. “I’m doing everything I can do to make sure I can be a part of it and play in Round 1. It’s an exciting time because we know we are a part of history and it is the first of many things to come.”

Hickey was previously drafted to the Melbourne Demons and did not see any game time, but she is looking forward to taking to the paddock with the Suns this year.

“It was obviously disappointing not getting a game with the Dees, but it helped me grow as a person and a player,” she said.

The Suns play their first AFLW game against Greater Western Sydney at Blacktown International Sportspark on February 8.
