Wintry nights for Alice Springs as temperatures drop to 3C or lower

Alice Springs residents are in for some wintry nights this week.

Is winter in Australia getting warmer?

ALICE Springs residents are in for some wintry nights this week, with temperatures expected to drop to 3C or even lower.

Daytime temperatures in the Red Centre town are expected to reach no higher than 20C at the weekend.

Behind the cool drop is a release of cold air into the town following the passage of a trough.

Temperatures are expected to raise slightly on Thursday and Friday before cooler conditions take hold again.

The Red Centre is experiencing temperatures a few degrees cooler than average for this time of year, increasing the risk of frost, particularly over this weekend.
