Piping water from the Top End to bring it to the dry Red Centre will be part of a National Water Grid a re-elected Coalition Government would create.
Lingiari Country Liberals candidate Jacinta Price said the National Water Grid would mean better national water infrastructure and management.
“The Coalition Government is investing more than $3 billion to work with state and territory governments to fast track water infrastructure projects that will deliver greater water security for rural communities, grow jobs,” she said.

“We will include looking at how that could affect Central Australia and put us on an equal footing with the rest of Australia.
“It will be looking at where the shortfalls are and what can be done to correct them.
“On my way to the Top End I called in at Ti Tree and saw the red earth with all this green protein being grown.
“This grid will underpin new and expanded agriculture and support regional economic growth, including in the Territory.

“It is a really exciting prospect for the desert and Central Australia.

The National Water Grid project will bring together the world’s best scientists to harvest and harness water in the best way possible.
This will ensure that decisions regarding water and water infrastructure by future state and federal governments are based on best available science, not on political agendas.

The proposal is to develop a Water Grid that will provide the pipeline of all established, current and future water infrastructure projects and then identify the missing links.
This will be achieved by using the best available science to examine how large scale water diversion projects could be established to deliver reliable and cost effective water to farmers and regional communities.
FEDERAL ELECTION NT
Ms Price said a re-elected Liberal and Nationals Government will also seek agreement from states and territories to co-invest in the project through the Council of Australian Governments to make this truly a national initiative based on science, not politics.
A re-elected Coalition Government will Invest an initial $100 million to better understand the country’s water resources and kick start investigation and delivery of water diversion projects.
Senator Nigel Scullion said adding water was the key to unlocking NT’s potential.
