Alice Springs' Todd River flows following heavy rain

THE normally bone-dry Todd River in Alice Springs is flowing following heavy rainfall in Central Australia.

The Bond Springs turn-off received 51mm of rain over the past 72 hours, while Collyer Creek received 45mm and Wigley Gorge, 38mm.

These three sites are all within the Todd River catchment area, which is just to the north of Alice Springs and requires heavy rainfall ifor the sandy river to reach a proper flow, rather than a mere trickle.

Mt Denison, a couple of hundred kilometres north of Alice, received 80mm of rain.

Territory Grape Farm, just south of Ti Tree, was hit with 109mm over the same 72-hour period.
