MORE than 2000 people from all over Australia descended on Yulara at the weekend to watch the dust fly for the annual Uluru Camel Cup.
Event organiser Lisa Creelman said 718 people attended the Calcutta on Friday night, where camel bidding started at $1000.
Saturday saw 2158 people attend to get involved in various activities including wheelbarrow racing, fashions on the field and camel poo throwing competition, as well as eight camel races.
Professional helicopter rides were the most popular activity on the day.
Local Alice Springs band Wold Pack Amadeus played to a crowd of more than 870 people on the Saturday night.
Ms Creelman said it was a “fabulous day” with a great turnout of a great crowd.
She said attendances were roughly 200 under the usual turnout, which she attested to the accommodation crisis being experienced across the Territory.
