FORMER Labor candidate for Braitling turned independent, Scott McConnell, has secured second spot on the ballot paper for the August 22 election, ahead of his old party.

The CLP’s Joshua Burgoyne drew the top spot in Thursday’s draw in the Todd Mall, with Labor incumbent Dale Wakefield taking out third.

Mr McConnell said he was pleased with his placement and thought “being second on the ballot paper is quite good when there are so many candidates”.

“There are a lot of individuals seeking to be the voice for Braitling, and I think it’s very important the voice for the constituents comes first,” he said.

“Not party politics or personal rhetoric. It is going to be very difficult in the NT for the next 10 years or more.

“The only thing that will ensure certainty of service delivery and economic development in the regions will be strong regional voices.”

In Araluen, the Territory Alliance candidate and incumbent Robyn Lambley is sixth on the ballot, behind CLP candidate and Alice Springs Mayor Damien Ryan.

The Greens’ Bernard Hickey is in pole position.

Ms Lambley said her being placed last in sixth place was still “good” news.

“Being the only female candidate for Araluen is unusual and hopefully an advantage,” she said.

“But elections are won on merit, hard work and substance.”
