The fifth anniversary of the Run Larapinta stage race is being celebrated with record numbers this year.

Organisers, Rapid Ascent, are already looking at more than 200 runners and entries are still coming in.

The Rapid Ascent crew arrived on Sunday to set the stages up for the event.

This is a team of 20 people including full-time staff and volunteers.

Run Larapinta is quite an operation to organise and Rapid Ascent has packed half a truck load of Tailwind powder for the event.

The Ormiston Gorge section of the trail for short course runners will cover a pretty spectacular route quite unique to a trail running event.

The short course sections are 11km on Friday, 20km finishing at Standley Chasm on Saturday, 22km to Ormiston Gorge on Sunday then finishing 30km to Glen Helen.

The long course has the same destinations.

The 40 per cent discount is still available for locals too – entries are trickling in.

Today is the final day to register for this year’s event.

Run Larapinta is being held from Friday to Monday.
