Freshly painted, made-over iconic Ghan train targeted in rock throwing, windows smashed

The iconic Ghan train, which has recently received a makeover and been freshly painted, has had multiple windows smashed when it was targeted by rock throwers.

UPDATE 1.25pm: THE newly made-over Ghan Train has had several windows smashed by rocks being thrown while it was travelling through Alice Springs on Monday afternoon.

A Journey Beyond spokeswoman said Journey Beyond Rail Expeditions confirmed seven carriage windows were damaged while The Ghan was travelling through Heavy Tree Gap, while en route to Darwin.

“Seven windows have been damaged in total and no guests or crew have been injured,” they said.

“There have been no delays to the services as a result of the damage and The Ghan is expected to arrive in Darwin as scheduled.

“Some of the damage may be fixed in Darwin upon arrival while the remaining carriages will be maintained on the return journey into Adelaide this week.

“Journey Beyond has contacted the Alice Springs police regarding the matter and will wait for further instructions from authorities.”

EARLIER: THE newly made-over Ghan Train has reportedly had its windows smashed.

Action for Alice reported on Facebook 11 windows were smashed by rocks which were thrown at the trains’ windows yesterday.

The train had recently received a makeover with Santa Teresa’s Chantelle Mulladad’s artwork now adorning the iconic transcontinental train.
