Petal, who did not wish to disclose his last name, said he and some friends came up with the sculptures as an “artistic and political expression”.
“It’s a combined effort, it was a collaborate idea. The original idea came from the pine stumps that I dug out of my yard while landscaping,” he said.
“A friend of mine said they look like pigs so I thought, ‘Cool let’s have a political piggy party’.
“I feel it’s sad we don’t get to show our political power and that we have to pull it down. Art is controversial and that’s what we like about it.”
Police officers and council rangers attended the scene to oversee the removal of the pigs.
Council CEO Robert Jennings said multiple complaints were made about the pigs.
“Council can confirm it received a number of complaints about items on a council verge in Northside and the items were removed due to the offensive nature of the material.”
