IF YOU’VE walked into Piccolo’s Cafe in Alice Springs in the past two and a half years you’ve probably seen Pearl Randhay, a bubbly, self-proclaimed “social butterfly” and chatterbox who loves to care for her customers, along with her husband, Rupinder Singh.

Pearl and Rupinder own and run the Cafe, as front of house and chef, after taking over in April 2018. Their cafe came out on top in a Centralian Advocate poll for Alice Springs’ best cafe.

Stacks of Centralian Advocate readers commented on the wonderful food, exceptional service and friendly staff at Piccolo’s.

Pearl said it took them almost four months to “come up with a menu that would suit every single personality”.

“There’s something for vegetarian, for a seafood person, a meat person, something for a vegan and vegetarian, or something for a person whose savoury something for a person who likes sweets – it’s got something for everybody.

“We still want to do a lot of things like we wanted to convert this to a cafe / bar but due to COVID that slowed down the process but it doesn’t mean that in the future we won’t try new things.

“We just started to open during the night-time.

“We do deliveries around town during the day breakfast, lunch and dinner and there’s a website where you order from.”

The couple said they were thrilled and grateful for the nominations from their customers, which they consider friends.

“Everyone’s spending their hard earned money and they deserve to be treated fairly, honestly and friendly.

“We try to hire people who know how to care because you can teach someone how to work but you can’t teach how to care.”

Recognising the great cafe’s of Alice Springs, each “with their own character and speciality”, the couple made a point to pass on the support their business received during the height of COVID-19 restrictions and supported other hospitality businesses by ordering a takeaway daily from all around town.
