HOTEL cancellations in Alice Springs brought on by Victoria’s coronavirus lockdown have so far been easily filled, with tourists from the rest of the country quick to seize on any open spots.
General manager at Aurora Hotel Martin Sisson said there had been “a handful” of cancellations over the past few days, but any openings didn’t stay free for long.
“We’ve sold those rooms straight away,” he said.
“There’s an awful lot of people out there looking for rooms in Alice.”
Mr Sisson added that some guests had extended their stays because they had been ordered by the government to self-isolate if they had visited a Covid-19 exposure site in Victoria.
Hospitality NT chief executive Alex Bruce said the high demand from tourists wanting to visit Central Australia meant there was little impact from the cancellations.
“It’s still a very positive picture at this stage,” he said.
“But that may deteriorate if lockdowns and restrictions get extended.”
