THE National Aboriginal Art Gallery could be located either near the Alice Springs Desert Park or at the foot of Anzac Hill.
After months of consultations with the project’s steering committee, Centralians will finally get a chance to have their say on the proposals.
It’s part of a $90m plan released on Friday by the NT Labor Government to revitalise the CBD, and make Alice Springs the “Inland Capital of Australia”.

“The $50 million iconic National Aboriginal Art Gallery will be at the centre of an Alice Springs revitalisation,” said Chief Minister Michael Gunner.
Speaking at the Central Australian Chamber of Commerce AGM this week, Mr Gunner revealed his personal preference would be the Anzac Hill site, and urged all Centralians to have their say on that, and the rest of the plans.
Other ideas for the urban renewal include a meeting place near the Flynn Church and Adelaide House, just off Todd Mall, which it is hoped would in increase tourist activity at night and make the area safer.
A children’s water park is also mentioned, along with more shade structures and heat mitigation measures.
“Get more people here, keep them here longer. That’s what you’ve been asking for,” Mr Gunner said.
“We want to make sure they stay that extra night, they shop that extra hour, they grab that extra coffee.”
The Melanka site also gets a mention, with possibilities of student or senior accommodation, a hotel or other residential property in a multi-storey development.
