Ms Taylor said she was confident her time spent campaigning in the bush would pay off.

“I travelled out on the weekends and I’ve been to each community at least twice, if not more, prior to voting,” she said.

“So I was fairly confident I had the confidence of the people in the bush.”

She said historically bush seats have leant to Labor across the Territory.

Mr Yan also echoed this and said “traditionally, bush tend to vote in a particular block and vote one way”.

“Due to a lot of commitments I wasn’t able to spend as much time in the bush as I would have liked,” Mr Yan said.

“People in the bush will vote for you if they know you well enough and you had their respect and their trust so not being able to spend as much time there as I would have liked my is reflected in those (mobile polling) figures.
