A MAN has fronted court after he was charged with murdering a teenager in the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (APY), in the far northern tip of South Australia – just south of the NT border.
In a statement, South Australian police said just after 8.30pm on Saturday, August 21, police were called to the Ernabella Clinic in Pukatja – a remote Indigenous community approximately 330km south-west of Alice Springs, after reports a man had presented to the clinic with stab wounds.
The 19-year-old South Australian man was flown to the Alice Springs Hospital in a critical condition.
However, the man died from his injuries the following day.
On Sunday, August 22, following an investigation, police arrested 39-year-old Osborne man, Duncan O’Toole, at Pukatja and charged him with murder. Police said the man was known to the victim.
O’Toole faced Port Augusta Magistrates Court on Monday.
The matter was adjourned to February 16, 2022.
