A TERRITORY driver has been reminded that it takes approximately an hour for every alcoholic drink consumed to leave the human system, after he was surprised to be caught drunk driving the day after “a very big night”.

Biel Tang was disqualified from driving for the second time in a year after pleading guilty to low range drink driving in Alice Springs Local Court.

The court heard Tang was driving at 4pm on June 2 along Leichhardt Terrace when he was subject to a random breath test, where he returned a positive result of .062.

The court heard Tang had “consciously not driven that morning as he had had a very big night the night before” and thought that by four in the afternoon he would no longer have alcohol in his system.

Judge Greg Borchers said “it is concerning that you were before the court as recently as September last year for drink driving and were disqualified for six months”.

“You need to be more careful and certainly not drive after drinking.

“And if you are at 4 o’clock in the afternoon, you are recording that level … it certainly is serious drinking.”

Mr Tang was issued $450 in fines and disqualified from driving for three months
