A 67-YEAR-OLD man has been served with a Notice to Appear before the Alice Springs Local Court after officers found animal traps in the yard of an Alice Springs property.

Police responded to a report from a member of the public who had located her pet cat trapped in the yard of a Sadadeen home on Sunday afternoon.

It is alleged the occupant of the home refused the woman entry to retrieve her animal.

Police arrived on scene and conducted inquiries which resulted in officers seizing three steel jaw traps.

The man was served with a Notice to Appear on one count each of Aggravated Animal Cruelty and Possess Steel Jaw traps contrary to the Animal Welfare Act.

He is scheduled to appear before court on October 27, 2020.
