POLICE were called in to stop a large group of about 20 youths lighting fires, throwing rocks and stopping cars on the streets of Alice Springs overnight.
Southern Watch Commander Shaun Furniss said police in Alice Springs saw an increase in youth disturbances and rock throwing on Monday night.
“A group of 10-15 youths were reported fighting and throwing objects at cars in Bloomfield St at about 6pm but they had dispersed by the time police arrived,” he said.
“Another large group of 20 youths were throwing rocks at vehicles and buildings near the intersection of Whittaker and Colson St at about 8.15pm, police responded but the youths had dispersed.
“At about 11pm we received another report of a group of 20 or so youths near the Stott Tce bridge they were moving towards the CBD, throwing rocks, lighting fires and walking on the roadway stopping cars.

“Several youths were located, however there was insufficient evidence to show they were the ones creating the disturbance.”
