LABOR has preselected two prominent Alice Springs football coaches to run as candidates in the August election.
Redtails Football Club coach Jackson Ankers has been endorsed as Labor’s candidate for Araluen and Pioneer women’s coach Sheralee Taylor will run in the seat of Namatjira.
Mr Ankers works for the regional council in Alice Springs and has also coached Feds Premier League to winning two premierships, as well as being an assistant coach for NT Thunder.
“I’ve lived here in Alice Springs for almost a decade and I come from a sporting and community involvement background,” he said.
“I’m really looking forward to the hard work that's ahead.”
Ms Taylor became the first female coach to win a Central Australian Football League premiership in 2019 and has strong links in the Alice Springs community through her involvement in sports.
“My childhood home where I grew up is in the seat of Namatjira, so I’ve got a lot of friends and family connections in this seat,” she said.
“I’m just looking forward to getting out there and taking up the challenge.”
The mother of two also sits on the boards of the Central Australian Aboriginal Congress and Centrecorp Foundation.
