AN Alice Springs family that was reported missing in the Philippines is said to be safe.

Mabuhay Multicultural Association appeal coordinator Debbie Cooke said Robert and Girlie Kennedy and their four children had survived the deadly Typhoon Haiyan and were expected in Alice this weekend.

"We got the good news that Mr Kennedy rang his mother in Victoria just to let everyone know that the family was safe,'' McCooke said.

"We are very relieved that they are all OK.

"They were in Bantayan Island which is one of the places that was badly affected by the typhoon.

"Our community is all thrilled and happy that they are safe and well. It is such a relief.

"We will definitely go to the airport to welcome them and we will crack a few bottles of wine to welcome them back.''

Ms Cooke said they were still collecting donations for the affected people of the Philippines.

"We continue to collect donations from individuals and the corporate world,'' she said.

"We are collecting cash and material, we also sent emails to all multicultural communities in and around Alice. I urge people to be generous, people in Philippines are in dire need,'' she said.

Donations can be deposited to the Filipino community's bank account (BSB: 015881 Account: 4100927).
