On his opening address to the jury, Crown Prosecutor Stephen Robson said they could expect to hear evidence that Mulladad called family to tell them he stabbed his wife Pamela Mulladad.

Mr Robson said after Mulladad woke his wife up, she allegedly told him that she “didn’t want him anymore”.

“He called a number of family members while he was walking along from Charles Creek into town and he told them that he’d stabbed Pamela Mulladad and that she was dead,” he told the court.

Police officer Rebecca Burston answered questions in court and said Mulladad walked into the police station while she was on shift and asked her if his wife was alive.

“I asked him why he believed his wife was dead and he said ‘because I stabbed her,’ ” Officer Burston said.
