THE managers of a small hospitality business in the Outback near Alice Springs are “heartbroken” after a break-in which has cost them thousands of dollars.

Ross River Resort is a tourist facility formed around the original Loves Creek Homestead built in 1898 and offers old-fashioned hospitality.

It is managed by partners Lee Donald and Graeme Adlam.

“We found at some stage over Tuesday night ... we found between 9pm and 7am the homestead had been broken into,” Ms Donald said.

“They gained access through a window (which they damaged), they stole our two tills, rifled through the office cupboards and stole alcohol from our bar fridges and coolers.”

Ms Donald said they havent’ yet put a figure on the cost damage but the tills had around $900 in them.

She said it was “devastating”.

“Especially in such a horrendous year that everyone is having.

“We’re working our butts off out here working seven days a week, 10 hours a day to try and keep this business open and running for people to be able to use.

“It’s heartbreaking to think someone thinks they can just come and help themsleves to our hard work.

“I find that really hard to cope with, as I’m sure every business owner and every homeowner in Alice Springs does as well.”

Police are investigating the break-in and urge anyone with information to come forward.
