AT the age of 30, the CLP’s Joshua Burgoyne is the youngest parliamentarian in the Northern Territory after being elected in Braitling.

The new MLA regained the seat for the Country Liberal Party after Labor’s Dale Wakefield narrowly defeated then Chief Minister Adam Giles in 2016.

A keen sportsman and born-and-bred Alice Springs local, Mr Burgoyne is confident age is just a number when it comes to politics.

He said he drew inspiration from other young politicians.

“I look at people like Lia Finocchiaro (CLP leader) and the things that they’ve been able to achieve in their time and hope that I’ll be able to achieve such things,” Mr Burgoyne said.

“The views of young people are obviously very important to represent and I hope I can represent not only the young people but all people of the electorate.

“It’s certainly very humbling to be so young and to be someone that people have put their faith and support behind.”

All votes in Braitling had been counted by 5pm yesterday with Mr Burgoyne leading the two-candidate preferred count with 2095 votes while Ms Wakefield had 1967 votes.
